Montague nomination papers still available

MONTAGUE — There is still time left for residents to take out nomination papers for town offices and for town meeting members. Today is the last day to obtain nomination papers for public office in the annual town election.

Papers are due Monday by 5 p.m. for inclusion on the ballot for the May 19 election.

Two people have taken out nomination papers to run against incumbent Selectman Michael Nelson. Jeanne Golrick of 11 West Main St. and Jacobo Roque of 20 Bridge St., both in Millers Falls.

Nomination papers are also available for assessor, Board of Health, Parks and Recreation Commission, Soldiers Memorial Trustee (veteran and non-veteran), library trustees and Montague Housing Authority. All require 30 signatures of registered voters.

Papers for town meeting members are available for all precincts and only require 10 signatures of registered voters from the precinct in question.

There are uncontested openings for town meeting members in all precincts, except Precinct 4 where there is at least one candidates for each vacancy. Precinct 6 is particularly open with three three-year seats and four two-year seats uncontested. Only town meeting members may vote at town meetings.

Contact the town clerk’s office at 413-863-3200, ext. 203 with any questions. Town Hall is open Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., until 6:30 p.m. on Wednesdays and closed Fridays.
