More extras wanted for  film shooting in Charlemont

CHARLEMONT — About 40 extras have been cast for “Then There Was,” a movie that is to start filming here Tuesday.

The casting call is still on, as more background characters are sought for this science fiction film about how residents of a small New England town handle a global blackout as society crumbles around them.

Jordan Marder, the producer and a lead actor in the film, said one scene calls for at least 50 extras, so there is still time to be in the film. The background characters may be of any age and size. They won’t be paid cash, but will be fed on the job, and their names will appear on the film credit at the end of the movie.

One scene will show a line of cars queued up at a service station for gasoline, and those extras will be asked to come with their vehicles for that filming. Fliers are being distributed around Shelburne Falls and in Charlemont. Those interested in being cast may send an email to:

“Then There Was” will star Marder, as well as other television and movie actors: Mark Valley, best known as Brad Chase in “Boston Legal;” Ronny Gene Blevins of “The Dark Knight Rises;” Abraham Benrubi of “ER” and the movie “Twister;” and Costas Mandylor, known for “The Saw” movies and for his role as gangster Frank Costello in the 1991 film “Mobsters.”

The director will be Louis Mandylor, Costas’ brother. Louis Mandylor is perhaps best known for his role in “My Big Fat Greek Wedding.”
