Erving election sweeps in unchallenged incumbents, maybe write-ins

ERVING — All candidates on the ballot handily won their uncontested races in the annual town election on Monday, according to Town Clerk Richard Newton, and two write-in candidates have said they will consider accepting positions on the school committee.

Voter turnout, Newton said, was horrible. Newton said of 1,050 registered voters 62, or 4.6 percent, turned out.

Winning as write-in for the open three-year seat on the School Committee was Nathan May, with two votes, over a handful of other write-ins with one vote each. Written in to the one-year School Committee seat with four votes over one name with two votes and a handful with one was Melanie Burnett, a school committee member who Newton said had chosen not to run for re-election this year. Newton said he had contacted both and both said they would think about accepting.

Newton said there were 10 different write-ins for the open three-year term on the Board of Library Trustees, but with one vote each none won. A one-year term on the Planning Board drew a similar array of write-ins and no winner.
