Conway to hold public forums on highway garage project
CONWAY — Townspeople will have two opportunities to see what the town’s proposed highway garage could look like.
The town is holding two public forums, on June 5 at 7 p.m. at the Town Hall and June 7 at 7 p.m. at the current garage.
Townspeople will be able to compare proposed designs with the existing facility.
The design includes two buildings. One heated building at 4,775 square feet would encompass the maintenance bay and office.
The second unheated building is slated to be 7,000 square feet. It would provide storage for 14 vehicles.
The expected cost of the new garage is $2.7 million to $2.85 million.
On June 16, at a special town meeting, voters will be asked to approve $1,975,000 to pay a portion of the construction costs. The town has not gone out to bid yet for the project.
Voters will also be asked to transfer $646,590 from the garage stabilization fund to pay toward construction costs.
Reinhardt Associates of Agawam designed the project.
The special town meeting is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. in the Conway Grammar School.
The new garage, if approved, would be located behind the salt shed on town property adjacent to the Conway Grammar School.
Right now, the Highway Department shares a building on Route 116 with the Fire Department and ambulance.
The existing highway garage would continue to house the fire department and ambulance.
