Neighbors: Ashfield woman headed to Puerto Rico to massage animals in need

Hello neighbor.

You all probably know by now that I am an animal lover.

Our neighbor Carole Groman of Ashfield, the hand behind Hand & Paw Animal Massage, will be visiting Second Chance Animal Rescue (SCAR) in Villalba, Puerto Rico, in April.

During that time, Carole says she will donate her massage skills to assist animals recovering from surgery, injuries, stress or trauma. She will also be teaching Bonnie Lukas, the owner of the rescue, how to massage the animals.

SCAR works to end animal cruelty in Puerto Rico, as well as create spay and neuter clinics, provide rehabilitation services for animals that have been emotionally and physically abused, and it provides transportation costs to ship them off of the island to permanent homes.

For more information about SCAR, visit: www.scarpr.org.

Congratulations Thierry! As Eveline says, your cheerfulness and efficiency help the downtown shine brighter.

FOR THE SECOND YEAR IN A ROW, Spanish students at Four Rivers Charter Public School have learned through coffee. Students recently studied the relationship between people and the coffee they drink and examined the process that coffee goes through from farm to cup. They also participated in a series of fieldwork explorations.

Dean’s Beans Organic Coffee of Orange collaborated with the students, and Franklin Community Co-op became involved by selling coffee in its stores at discounted prices.

In April, the Spanish students at Four Rivers will travel to Nicaragua to deepen their knowledge of the land and cultures.

A donation of $3 from every pound of coffee sold for Four Rivers will go toward that trip. The coffee is being displayed at Green Fields Market in Greenfield and McCusker’s Market in Shelburne Falls with the “Hasta la Taza” book.
