Mass. man wanted for attempted murder at NH motel
SALEM, N.H. — Salem police are searching for a 30-year-old man they say tried to kill a woman.
Police responded to a domestic disturbance Saturday evening at a motel where they found the woman with severe head injuries. She told them that Walton Valentin of Methuen, Mass., had jumped into her car in Lawrence, Mass., held a gun to her stomach and threatened to kill her family.
At the motel, she says Valentin pointed the gun at her and pulled the trigger but the gun jammed. She says he choked her and hit her repeatedly in the head with the gun before stealing her minivan.
Police recovered the van in Andover, Mass. They say Valentin should be considered armed and dangerous.
He faces charges including attempted second-degree murder, kidnapping, assault and others.
Man arrested after Molly drug delivery
BOSTON — A 23-year-old Medway man has been arrested after allegedly accepting a delivery of a pound of the club drug Molly that had been shipped from China.
State police said in a statement Sunday that the package containing the drug was intercepted last week at Logan International Airport.
A state trooper posing as a FedEx driver delivered it to an address in Milford. The person at that address said he was accepting the package as a favor to someone else.
That person, later identified as David Sheehan, was arrested when he came to pick up the package.
Sheehan was granted $1,000 bail after pleading not guilty to drug offenses.
He told police he ordered the drug online.
Molly, or MDMA, is a pure form of ecstasy.
Man allegedly shot dog with bow, arrow
EAST BROOKFIELD — An Oakham man is facing charges after allegedly shooting a neighbor’s dog with an arrow.
Byron Carpenter has been charged with maiming an animal, discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a residence, and causing property damage with a hunting weapon. He was ordered by a judge to surrender all of his hunting equipment and his hunting license.
Authorities say the 36-year-old Carpenter shot his neighbor’s border collie-Labrador mix dog on Oct. 23 in a wooded area. The dog was shot in the front leg and is recovering.
Police allege Carpenter was sick of hearing the dog bark.
Carpenter says he shot what he thought was a coyote coming after him in the darkness. He is free on personal recognizance after pleading not guilty.
Ortiz to produce MTV television show
NEW YORK — As if winning the World Series MVP wasn’t enough, Boston Red Sox slugger David Ortiz is becoming a producer of his own MTV television show.
MTV Networks and Major League Baseball said Monday they are collaborating on a weekly 30-episode series that melds pop culture and baseball. Ortiz and Pittsburgh Pirates All-Star outfielder Andrew McCutchen are both executive producers of the series, set to begin next spring around the start of the new season. It will be shot at the MLB Fan Cave, a facility built at an abandoned Tower Records store in Manhattan that has fan features, interactive elements and occasional pop music concerts.
When MTV heard Ortiz described as the musical director of the Red Sox clubhouse, it was sold, said Stephen Friedman, MTV president. “That’s gold for us,” he said.
