Healthy Kids Day: On April 26 from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., the Y will be offering many activities to promote healthy kids. From 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. a “healthy snacks and cooking” demo will be held for parents and kids; from noon to 2 p.m., there will be gym games, climbing wall and a dance party for ages 5 to 12. Healthy Kids Day is a free event for all boys and girls.

May to June classes: Registration for May to June classes begins April 14 for Y facility members and April 21 for all others. Classes run from the week of April 28 to June 21. Classes for youth include swimming, gymnastics, soccer (ages 4 to 12), cross country (ages 6 to 12), Karate, Taekwondo and all summer camps. Classes for adults include water fitness/therapy, strength training, weight loss programs, scuba diving and more.

Skateboarding Camp: From Aug. 4 to 8, the Y will have a portable skate park set up at Camp Apex to hold its first Skateboarding Camp for ages 8 to 14. The camp meets Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. From 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. each day the campers will focus on skateboarding skills; then from 1 to 4 will participate in regular Apex activities like swimming, hiking, archery, etc. Camp fee is $175 for members and $195 for non-members. Half-Day Sports Camps: The YMCA is offering eight weeks of Half Day Sports Camps for ages 6 to 14 in its newly air-conditioned gym. The camps run from 9 a.m. to noon, Monday to Friday, June 23 to Aug. 15. Check the “Camp Guide” at: or pick up a copy at the YMCA. Camps will fill up quickly so parents should plan ahead.

Summer Preschool Program: The Y’s Summer Preschool Program is for boys and girls age 2.9 to 5. The program day is from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. with early and late care available 6:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. The summer sessions go from June 16 to Aug. 15 with one one-week session and four two-week sessions. The themes are Olympians 2014, Out of this World, Got Dirt? and Let’s go to the Circus. Children learn about the themes in the two air-conditioned classrooms, but also get plenty of play and exercise time in the large outdoor play yard, the air-conditioned gym and a weekly fun swim.
