‘Byways’ website launches with Friday event

A kickoff event for a new Western Massachusetts Scenic Byways website is planned for Friday morning at Mount Sugarloaf Reservation.

The event, to call attention to a new website focusing on attractions clustered around the region’s seven scenic byways, will include refreshments, photos with an antique car, games and free souvenirs offered by the Western Massachusetts Scenic Byways Marketing Committee. It begins at 10 a.m. and is free for all.

The new website — www.bywayswesternmass.org — gives would-be visitors an eagle’s-eye view of the natural beauty, recreation, farming, cultural, wildlife and other attractions tucked away here and there. It’s aimed by the Franklin Regional Council of Governments and other Western Massachusetts planning agencies as part of a multifaceted campaign to both protect and develop economically by drawing travelers to attractions along the Mohawk Trail, Routes 47 and 63, Routes 112, 116 and 122, as well as Berkshire County’s Greylock and Jacob’s Ladder byways.
