Plans submitted to redevelop Millers Falls properties

MILLERS FALLS — The town of Montague has received a redevelopment proposal for two town-owned Millers Falls properties from Joseph Burek of 12 South Lyman St. and Shane Burek of 507 Mount Hermon Station Road, Northfield.

Town Planner Walter Ramsey said the two men propose to take 30 and 34 East Main St. and a nearby garage, the three smaller buildings of the four in the parcel identified as 26-28, 30 and 34 East Main St., for the nominal fee of $1 apiece and renovate them for apartment and commercial use.

The town took the properties for back taxes.

The proposal is to redevelop 30 East Main St. as a laundromat with a second-floor apartment and the smaller building at 34 East Main St. as a barbershop, commercial rental space and an efficiency apartment.

Ramsey said the Bureks are contractors and do not propose to operate the businesses.

Ramsey said the Powers Block, the stone building at the corner of East Main and Bridge streets taken with the others for back taxes in 2011, drew no proposals.
