Ashfield bonfire, solstice events Friday
ASHFIELD — The eighth annual Ashfield Winter Solstice Community Celebration takes place Friday on the Town Common, with a warming fire, singing and storytelling, beginning between 6:30 to 7 p.m. It is a free, family event.
Afterwards, festivities continue at Elmer’s, where the tables are pushed together to make one long dinner table. Besides the chance to buy dinner and beverages, guests will hear sea shanty songs, see a Mummer’s play and caribou dance by Morris dancers.
The Morris dancers will also do their traditional sword dance, to celebrate the return of the sun.
