Bernardston man found innocent of rape charges
GREENFIELD — A Bernardston man has been cleared of all charges in a Superior Court rape case.
Stephen Norwood, 48, was found innocent by a jury Thursday, after nearly two weeks of testimony.
He had stood accused of two counts of aggravated statutory rape of a person under 12, attempted statutory rape of a person under 12, and two counts of indecent assault and battery on a person under 14. The charges stemmed from allegations that Norwood abused the underage girl over a five-year period starting in 2007.
If found guilty of the aggravated statutory rape charges, the defendant would have faced a state prison sentence of 10 years to life.
