Montague detective promoted to Sgt.
MONTAGUE — Detective Leon “Lee” Laster of the Montague Police Department is now Sgt. Laster, of the same department.
Laster is a longtime department employee, serving for years as the narcotics detective and specializing in drug investigations.
Chief Charles “Chip” Dodge III announced the promotion, approved Monday by the Board of Selectmen.
The appointment took effect Tuesday.
Laster began as a special police officer with the department in June of 1998, became a full time officer in 2001, and in 2004 was appointed head narcotics detective, Dodge wrote.
Laster becomes the fourth sergeant on the Montague Police Department roster, filling the position vacated by Dodge’s promotion to chief.
Laster also served as a provisional sergeant earlier in the promotional shuffle as the selectmen selected a chief in 2011 and 2012.
