SHELBURNE FALLS — Work continues on renovations at the Greenfield Savings Bank on Bridge Street as girders are put into place for a two-story tower in the front of the bank building.

When finished, the refurbished bank will have a brick facade, complementing traditional buildings in the village with accents that mimic the colors found in Arms Library’s Pratt Memorial Building.

The tower is designed to catch water, ice and snow so that it will not fall on the sidewalk. The town’s benches and trash receptacles will be re-installed. Also, sidewalks in front of the bank will be replaced, and two trees meeting Shelburne’s new tree-scape plan will be added.

Bank officials wanted to update the look of the bank while adding more office space. The work was to have started last summer, but was postponed for the filming of “Labor Day,” starring Kate Winslet and Josh Brolin.

However, the bank, with its old facade, was filmed for a scene in this Hollywood feature film.
