Deerfield special election for selectman on Sept. 9

DEERFIELD — A special election to fill the selectman seat vacated by Elizabeth Clarke is slated for Sept. 9.

The term will run from Sept. 9 until the next annual town election on May 5, 2014.

The last day to obtain nomination papers is July 20.

The last day to register to vote is Aug. 20.

On April 18, Clarke unexpectedly announced her resignation after serving two years of the three-year term. Clarke cited demands of her private life and the job as the main reason for her early departure.

Clarke stayed on until May 1, leaving Selectmen Mark Gilmore and Carolyn Shores Ness on the board.
