Letter: Master Plan input

To the citizens of Greenfield:

What do you want Greenfield to be in 10 years? As a town, we are embarking on creating a new Master Plan, hopefully with a great deal of input from a wide cross section of Greenfield residents — young, senior, new residents and families, life-long residents. The year-long process for creating Greenfield’s first Sustainability Master Plan is well under way, with a volunteer Master Plan Steering Committee, made up of 30-plus town citizens, department heads and town board members, meeting monthly since November. The Master Plan Steering Committee, under the direction of our consultant, is seeking this citizen input in a variety of ways. So, you, the people of Greenfield will have ample opportunity to participate in helping shape Greenfield’s future. First and foremost, we will hold three community-wide forums where people can attend and voice their interests, give advice and expertise, and share their vision for Greenfield now and into the future.

The first of these forums will be held Saturday, Feb. 9, at Four Rivers School from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. (refreshments served). Please consider taking some time out of that day to join us for lively, thoughtful facilitated discussion and work groups on the issues of economic development, land use, open space and recreation, housing, education, transportation and other topics. The Master Plan Steering Committee wants to hear from you! From your input at any of the three meetings, we will begin to craft our goals and implementation strategies to guide our town’s sustainable growth and development for the next 5-10 years.

If community forums aren’t your thing, we’ll also have a website up and running soon where you can see what the Steering Committee is up to and what other citizens have suggested and you can communicate your thoughts and ideas there. Or check out the Facebook page, Greenfield Sustainable Master Plan, and share your thoughts there.

We look forward to your participation in whatever way is best for you! But we’d really like to see you at Four Rivers School on Feb. 9 to help us get off to a good start!
