Alleged Greenfield stabbing under investigation

GREENFIELD — An alleged stabbing Sunday morning on Conway Street remains under investigation, according to police.

At 5:17 a.m., police were called to 49 Conway St. for a report of an assault with a dangerous weapon, where Greenfield Police Sgt. Mark Williams said a woman allegedly stabbed a Springfield man in the leg with a serrated kitchen knife.

The man was treated for a wound to the leg at Baystate Franklin Medical Center and police took a statement from the alleged attacker, according to Williams.

Williams said the woman, a resident of the Conway Street building, and the alleged victim know one another and were in a relationship.

“The public has no reason to fear, it wasn’t a random attack,” Williams said.

Williams said the department was not releasing names or further details of the incident pending investigation.

No arrests had been made Sunday afternoon.

“It is yet to be determined if there will be any arrests or criminal charges,” Williams said, and police were looking to speak further with the alleged victim.

“He needs to be spoken to again for clarification,” Williams said.
