‘Knights of the Blind’ donate books, computer to Tilton Library
DEERFIELD — For Deerfield’s vision-impaired residents, using the public library has become a bit easier, thanks to a bit of philanthropy from the Deerfield Lions Club.
In March, the club donated money raised as a result of its 2013 antique and classic car show to Deerfield’s Tilton Library for the purchase of a new computer with a 23-inch screen.
According to the club, the screen will help community members with poor vision use computers at the library more easily.
“As Helen Keller dubbed the Lions Club the ‘Knights of the Blind,’ the club is delighted to donate these visual tools to its community library,” said club President Pam Hodgkins.
Library Director Sara Woodbury said the gift is much appreciated.
“It’s great,” said Woodbury. “It’s really wonderful to have updated computers with large screens. It was very generous of them, and they have also given us money to buy large print books.”
