Second storm knocks out power, downs trees in Sunderland
SUNDERLAND — Two days after severe thunderstorms hit the area and left thousands throughout the county without power for several hours, more thunderstorms moved in Thursday and left Sunderland with downed trees and some power outages.
Sunderland Police Chief Jeffrey Gilbert said there were no reports of funnel clouds or tornados, but there were high enough winds Thursday night to knock out power in some areas and down some trees.
“We had to close a few roads until the trees could be removed,” said Gilbert. “The roads have opened back up.”
Gilbert said power was back on for most customers by 3 a.m. on Friday.
“We’ll be doing a complete cleanup on Monday,” he said.
Gilbert said no one was injured during the storms that passed through on Thursday.
Orange Fire Department reported a few wires down after the storms passed, but said they were quickly repaired.
The rest of the county reported little damage from the storms on Thursday.
