YMCA’s annual parking lot party set for Friday
GREENFIELD — On Friday, the YMCA will be hosting its annual Giant Parking Lot Party.
This community event for Y Members and nonmembers will run from 5 to 8 p.m. in the back parking lot of the YMCA. Some of the activities will include, DJ Tom Mayo playing music from the ’80s to today, plus children’s songs. There will be food for sale from Jean’s Food Wagon, Frank’s Fried Food & Ice Cream, and the YMCA will be selling watermelon and popcorn.
The Y Leaders Club will be hosting a kid’s carnival and arts and crafts for kids (25-cent tickets) and the Y’s Gymnastic Program, and “Y-Zumba” will be putting on demonstrations. There will also be family activities, including the Y’s new 40-foot inflatable obstacle course, a dunk tank, face painting, a petting zoo and pony rides.
Also this year the “Roaming Railroad,” the Lions Club vision testing mobile, Smokey Bear and the talking fire dog will be back. Y staff members will be “dunkees” in the dunk tank.
The YMCA is providing $500 in door prizes plus a raffle for four tickets to a Red Sox/Yankees game in August.
Bob Sunderland, YMCA executive director, said, “This annual event is a “Celebration of Community. One of the things that makes Franklin County a great place to live is how groups of people come together to support each other. We have learned over the years that it is not our YMCA’s equipment, facilities or programs that keep people coming back it is the small communities of two or three people or a community of an entire exercise class that bonds people to our YMCA. I hope people of all ages come to our Parking Lot Party to enjoy the activities, music and getting to know more people from our wonderful community of Franklin County.”
During the event there will be drawings for YMCA door prizes like gift certificates for eight-day camps, summer memberships and swim lessons. All proceeds from the party will go to the Y’s Annual Campaign to provide financial assistance for children and families to participate at the YMCA.
