Bulletin Board: Ward fires no-hitter, leads GMS over Athol

Kirsten Ward threw a complete game no-hitter with 18 strikeouts to power Greenfield Middle School over Athol Middle School, 6-0, in softball action Thursday afternoon in Greenfield.

Raegan Hickey led the offensive attack for Greenfield, going 2-for-2 with an RBI and a run scored.

Great Falls wins

Cassidhe Wozniak struck out 11 on Thursday and Great Falls Middle School knocked off Mohawk Trail Regional Middle School, 13-6, in a softball game in Buckland.

Wozniak helped her own cause out by going 3-for-5 at the plate with two triples and an RBI. Sarah Waldron doubled and drove in two runs as part of a 2-for-4 performance, and Alyson Murphy doubled and drove in two runs.

Frontier wins

Lauren Davenport struck out eight in four innings of one-hit ball to lead Frontier Regional Middle School to a 20-0 softball win over Hopkins Middle School Thursday afternoon in South Deerfield.

Kelsey Jarvis paced the Frontier offense with a two-run home run that was part of a big day for her at the plate as she finished with four hits and five RBIs.

Frontier moved to 2-0 on the season.


Turners 14U Suburban tryouts

The Turners Falls 14-and-under Suburban League tryouts will be held May 3 from noon to 2 p.m. at Turners Falls High School.

One parent or guardian must be present after tryouts for a quick overview of the summer league. A player is eligible if she didn’t turn 15 before Jan. 1.

League play begins on June 16, with playoffs starting Aug. 4. Games are Mondays and Thursdays.

Track and field

Caroline Sullivan won the 3,000 meters and placed second in the 400 to help Northfield Mount Hermon School to a 79-66 victory over Worcester Academy in a girls’ prep track and field meet on Wednesday.

Eve Charest placed third in both the 1,500 and 800 for the Hoggers, Izzy Lotocki came in second in the 1,500, and Nadzdya Korytnikova won the 800 and came in second in the 3,000. Ruthann Zientek won the discus and Sophie Gomarlo won the javelin.

• On the boys’ side, Ben Nicholas won the high jump, Jase Harrison came in second in the triple jump, and Dylan Refeld took second in both the discus and the shot put but NMH suffered a 85-60 decision to Worcester.
