Hi 37° | Lo 20°

Letter: My candidacy

My name is Penny Ricketts and I would like your vote on April 15 Precinct 5 voters.

I’m very lucky to have the diversity of Bingville, Highland Avenue, Maple Street, Deerfield Street, Orchard Street and the Highrise to name a few. It’s exciting and a big job to know I would be the voice of people who are different socially and financially.

Whether I’m serving community meals, meeting with business members through DA’s Citizens Advisory Board or researching local issues on the Human Rights Commission, I give 100 percent. What I enjoy the most is the opportunity to serve alongside various people who also love Greenfield. One evening we may be on opposing sides of the noise ordinance but the next week laughing together at the monthly Soup and Game Night at Hope and Olive.

Yes, I support big box stores like BJ’s, CVS, Walgreens and Home Depot. As a current employee at Home Depot, one of my roles is community liaison. I am also very supportive of local businesses. It is not only the salaries they pay, but their donations are more than you can ever imagine. Please shop and eat locally because a percentage goes right back to the community. The French King development has been voted for overwhelmingly in five out of six elections. Even if I didn’t support it, the residents do.

I want to continue listening to you on the street and at events.

I will never stop raising money for local scholarships, Camp Apex or our fireworks. It’s time I take my willingness to really make a difference to the council table. I have watched and attended many town and school meetings over the years. I finally chose to be part of the solution and needed the opportunity to debate our current issues. A few months ago, I went before the council asking to have the former Candlelight Motel demolished before someone gets hurt. I recently learned we have a potential dangerous house on Orchard Street. The plastic bag ordinance must go to the back burner until we can solve our empty/abandoned building issues.

Please give me 15 minutes of your time by voting on April 15 and I promise to stick my neck out for our precinct and all of Greenfield.
