Letter: The YMCA’s impact
The YMCA in Greenfield’s three areas of focus are: Youth Development, Healthy Living and Social Responsibility. Here are three examples of how the Y makes a difference in people’s lives.
• Eight-year-old Julia was all smiles after she swam the lengthy of the pool for the first time. This would not have happened without financial help.
• Mary’s face lit up when her doctor reported that her cholesterol and blood sugar levels were much improved since she started the Y’s Exercise is Medicine Program. She plans to continue her membership using the Sliding Fee Scale.
• Marge was feeling isolated after her husband died until she started volunteering and exercising at the YMCA. She now has a new group of Y friends who join her in a variety of volunteer activities in the Y and out in the community.
Programs at the YMCA in Greenfield have a positive impact on over 10,000 people each year. Thirty percent or more of these youth, families and seniors need financial assistance to participate. Our challenge is the gap between what we raise and what the need for assistance that keeps growing every year.
I do hope you will join me in supporting the Y’s 2014 annual campaign, so that no child will ever be turned away from the Y for lack of money. Donations can be sent directly to the YMCA or go to: ymcaingreenfield.org and click on “donate.”
Thank you in advance for your support.
