Police warn kids to walk together after suspicious man approaches boy
TURNERS FALLS — Police are looking for a man who put his hands on a small child in an alleyway.
An 8-year-old boy was walking home from Sheffield Elementary School at about 3:30 p.m., and cut through an alley between Third and Fourth streets, when a man walked up behind him and took hold of his arm and said something about candy, according to patrolman Daniel Miner.
“The kid pulled his arm away and ran home,” said Miner. “He did the right thing.”
Miner said people in the neighborhood had also seen the man, but none knew who he was. He is described as approximately 30, white, skinny, standing five-feet eight or nine inches tall, with short, dirty blond hair, and a small patch of facial hair between his lip and chin.
Police suggest that children walking home from school do so in groups.
Anyone with information regarding the suspect is asked to call Montague police at 413 863-8911 and ask for Miner or a member of the detective bureau.
