Estella Olevsky performs Sunday at Brick Church

DEERFIELD — The Brick Church Music Series of The First Church of Deerfield, 71 Old Main Street, will present its third concert of the season on Sunday at 3 p.m.

Estella Olevsky, a soloist, collaborative pianist and professor emerita of piano at the University of Massachusetts-Amherst, will be the guest artist. A renowned pianist internationally, as well as locally, she will be playing music by Mozart, Schubert, Bestor and Albeniz. Julie Nelson will be guest narrator for the Bestor composition.

This concert is a fundraiser for the church with a suggested donation of $10 at the door. There will be a reception following the church concert in the Caswell Library at Deerfield Academy’s Administration Building. Come sing with Edmund F. Smith Sunday in Colrain

COLRAIN— On Sunday, Colrain First Baptist Church on Foundry Village Road will feature a men’s chorus with many familiar voices, among which will be Edmund F. Smith of Glistening Brook Farm in Buckland.

The music will be during the 11 a.m. service, which will be followed by a coffee fellowship.

Music has helped Smith cope with his Alzheimer’s disease and his family hopes many friends and acquaintances will participate in this therapeutic endeavor.

Transcendentalism lecture Sunday

BERNARDSTON — Barry Deitz will give the lecture “Transcendentalism on Ice: The story of Three Men and One Winter’s Day in Concord” on Sunday at the Bernardston Unitarian Meetinghouse, 49 Church St. Bernardston; Coffee at 11 a.m., lecture at 11:30.

In the winter of 1842, the Concord River froze solid. On a November afternoon, Ralph Waldo Emerson, Henry David Thoreau, and Nathaniel Hawthorne went ice-skating together. This is the story of how the lives of three writers intertwined in the 1840s and how they went on to change the history of American literature. Free.


Reiki on Saturday, aliens on Sunday
