Hospital volunteers to hold annual Chocolate Fantasy

GREENFIELD — Baystate Franklin Medical Center’s volunteers and auxiliary will hold a Chocolate Fantasy on Valentine’s Day from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in the hospital’s main conference rooms.

Money raised will support the hospital Rehabilitation Department, which provides physical and occupational therapy as well as speech and hearing services.

“We always have a wish list,” said Jeff King, manager of the Rehabilitation Department. “Last year, we were able to purchase a Wii Fit program to enhance our physical and occupational therapy options for patients. It has been a wonderful addition to our program.” King continued, “We are looking forward to ‘shopping’ once we receive the funds from this year’s Chocolate Fantasy. We’re grateful to our volunteers for all the support they have given our department through this event.”

Sydney Ramey, chair of the Chocolate Fantasy committee, commented, “Many local organizations have graciously and generously donated chocolate items, from chocolate chip cookies, to chocolate covered apples, to truffles and fudge, and much more. We have invited them to ‘think creatively’ as they consider what to send in for the sale.”

Chocolate Fantasy will offer a wide variety of chocolate items, Valentine-related crafts, a raffle featuring several gift baskets and a silent auction. The Clinical Notes, the hospital’s women’s a cappella chorus, will perform a concert of “Love-ly Songs” at 12:15 p.m. in the hospital’s main lobby.

Students from the Culinary Arts Bakery Department at Franklin County Technical School will be on hand to decorate personalized cakes for prices ranging from $8 to $15 per cake.

A highlight of this year’s Fantasy is the raffling of a “Lovers’ Log Cabin” quilt, hand-made and donated by Marjorie Reid of Greenfield. The 68-by-86-inch red and ivory colored quilt features ‘heart-felt’ inscriptions. Raffle tickets are on sale at the hospital gift shop, and the quilt is in the Gift Shop Window. Tickets are $5 each and 3 for $10, 10.
