Garden Cinemas temporarily closed

GREENFIELD — The town’s only movie theater has been in the dark since the week began.

Garden Cinemas has been closed due to an electrical problem, according to a note on the door. The note did not say when the theater expects to re-open.

The theater’s owners are away on vacation until the end of the week, and unavailable for comment. A woman who answered the phone at owner George Gohl’s residence said crews had been working on the theater Tuesday and were expected to return today.

According to a post on the Greenfield Business Association’s Facebook page, a pipe in the cinema burst. The association had planned a discount showing of “West Side Story” for Tuesday night, but had to reschedule.

If you were planning a night at the movies, you can call the theater at 413-774-4881 to see if it’s open.
