School Wrestling: Frontier takes down Monument Mountain

Four wrestlers captured victories via pinfall, and visiting Frontier Regional School took care of business for a 51-27 road victory over Monument Mountain Regional High School in an independent wrestling match Wednesday night in Great Barrington.

Rearkeous McMillan needed just 34 seconds to dispatch of Brady Whalen at 145 pounds, while Frontier teammate KC Mattson pinned Monument’s Katahdin Jenen in 1:41 at 152 pounds.

Frontier’s Connor Pettis captured a pin in 3:22 at 138 pounds against Dorian Page, and Jackie Phong was a winner in 2:47 against Ian Babcock at 285.

Nate Austin captured a 5-3 decision over Dylan Tinker at 195 pounds, while Frontier (5-3) nabbed four other wins thanks to forfeits.

Hampshire 48, Athol 29 — Host Athol High School snagged victories in five different matches, but Hampshire Regional High School did the bulk of its damage in the middle weight classes to capture a 48-29 independent wrestling victory Wednesday at Mallet Gymnasium.

Chris Waslaske was a quick winner for Athol (0-3) at 182 pounds, pinning Hampshire’s Drew Holbrook in 1:01.

Athol’s Jon Mahony pinned Nathaniel Picard in 3:12 for a win at 106 pounds, while fellow Red Raider Caleb Cox won via pinfall at 126 pounds in 1:53. Ryan White added a win at 145 pounds, capturing a 16-0 technical fall decision.

Thomas Seamans was a forfeit winner at 220 pounds for Athol. The Raiders dropped a tight 14-8 decision in a back-and-forth affair at 120 pounds, as Bryce Shufelt was edged by Hampshire’s Max Abel.

FC Tech 48, Hampden Charter 27 — Seven pins and two decisions paced Franklin County Technical School to a 48-27 victory over Hampden Charter School of Science in an independent wrestling match Wednesday night in Turners Falls.

Hampden Charter earned 18 points at the three lightest weight classes, but the Eagles earned points at nine of the next 11 weights. Kyle Brunelle pinned Emilio Rodriguez in 3:57 at 126 pounds, and Jaden Sadlowski pinned Shaunari Buckhanoon in 1:44 at 132 pounds. Matt Sullivan beat Thomas Czatoryski, 7-1, at 138, and Noah Fuess beat Victor Mereno, 9-4, at 145.

Ian McClure pinned Christopher Martinez in 3:46 at 152 pounds, and Brody Wood pinned Julio Moralas in 1:37 at 170 pounds. Jack Fuller pinned Lexoni Babion in 3:33 at 182, Chris Ludwig pinned Devin Messer in 2:43 at 195, and Cameron Tuttle pinned Quentin Gardner in 53 seconds at 285.

Mahar 46, Southwick 30 — Mahar Regional School piled up six pins Wednesday to defeat Southwick-Tolland Regional High School, 46-30, in an independent wrestling match in Orange.

Jeffrey Kidwell earned a pin at 106 pounds with his victory over Ruvim Lavarechuk in 1:36, and Luke Chiodo earned a forfeit at 120 pounds. Henry Ndayisaba pinned Nazar Tkach 27 seconds into the second period at 138 pounds, and Adam Clement followed with a pin over Ryan Seder in 4:44 at 145.

Anurak Jittang pinned Chris Trusty in 1:49 at 170 pounds, Peter Tattan pinned Trevor Deruisseaux in 5:32 at 182 pounds, and Cole Emery pinned Nick Breen with one second left in the first period at 195 pounds.

Mahar also earned four points at 152 pounds where Todd Chiasson earned a 10-1 major decision over Dakota Wood.

Mohawk 42, Pathfinder 30 — It was a solid match all the way around for Mohawk Trail Regional High School, which got into the win column for the first time and captured its Tri-County League opener with a 42-30 win over Pathfinder Regional Vocational Technical High School Wednesday night in Thorndike.

Mason Biagini picked up a solid win at 170 pounds for the Warriors (1-2, 1-0), while Gabe Bower was a winner at 182 pounds and Dylan Wooldridge captured a victory at 145 pounds.

“Everyone wrestled really well,” offered Mohawk coach Mark Biagini. “(Pathfinder) had a good team and it was a really good match for us.”
