TURNERS FALLS — A special town meeting will be held to vote on seven articles, including motions to amend marijuana zoning bylaws and impose a local sales tax on marijuana sales.

The meeting will be held at Shea Theater Thursday at 6:30 p.m. Those who are qualified to vote on town affairs are welcome to attend.

The zoning bylaw change would broaden the regulations to cover both medical and recreational marijuana. “The zoning would regulate marijuana establishments in light of new regulations for recreational marijuana licensed by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts inclusive of retail, cultivation, processing, research and testing establishments and medical treatment facilities.” Such uses would require special permits and site plan review from the town.

Other articles that will be voted on Thursday include:

A motion to appropriate $49,000 to repair or replace the Shea Theater roof using Free Cash.

A motion to increase the Fiscal Year 2018 Building Inspector budget by $13,250 using Free Cash.

A motion to approve a Tax Increment Financing Agreement with Ja’Duke Center for the Performing Arts, which hopes to fund a new building to expand its classrooms.

A motion to authorize the Board of Selectmen to petition the General Court for special legislation to allow the Board of Assessors to grant “reasonable real estate tax abatements” for property on Swamp Road.

A motion to grant a liquor license at 42 Canal Road in Turners Falls.
