With the upcoming Massachusetts primary set for Sept. 4, the deadline to register to vote, along with changing party enrollment, is Aug. 15.

According to the Elections Division of the Secretary of the Commonwealth, residents can register to vote one of three ways — online, by mail or in person.

Voting online requires a signature on file with the Registry of Motor Vehicles and must be submitted by midnight on the date of the registration deadline. Those who don’t qualify to register online can download a registration form from the Secretary of the Commonwealth’s website at bit.ly/1tfUvKu to submit through the mail. Forms sent through the mail must be postmarked no later than the registration voter deadline.

Residents can also register to vote in-person at any local election office or at the Elections Division of the Secretary of the Commonwealth’s office in Boston. Forms completed in-person are valid the day they are signed. In order to vote in all primaries and general elections, individuals must register to vote 20 days prior.

For voters who have recently moved, it is necessary to update your voter registration to reflect a new address. Those who move after the registration deadline must wait to update their information until after the election.

In towns with fewer than 1,500 voters, registration sessions are required to be held from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 8 p.m., according to the Elections Division.

In Wendell, a special voter registration session is set for Aug. 15, the deadline for registering, at the town clerk’s office from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. Absentee voter applications for the primary election in September are available at the town clerk’s office. The deadline to apply for the ballot is 5 p.m. on Aug. 31.
