If you are a fan of the band Kalliope Jones, you know that the group’s three members — guitarist Isabella DeHerdt, drummer Alouette Batteau and bassist Amelia Chalfant — are all talented singers, songwriters and musicians. But you may not be aware that they all have solo projects in addition to their work with the popular band.

That’s all about to change as the members of Kalliope Jones will come together on Saturday night at the Ashfield Lake House to present a night that will showcase their solo work. When Alouette Batteau hosts a release party for their new solo EP, “Confession Cruise,” DeHerdt and Chalfant will be on hand to play their own music. Chalfant, who performs under the moniker Wheelzie, and DeHerdt, who, with Isaac Eliot, is part of the indie folk duo High Tea, also have new music coming out soon. So the timing is perfect.

The three musicians, who all grew up in the hilltowns of Franklin County, have been working on solo projects for a few years, especially during the COVID lockdown. It will be a special night to have the three of them on the same bill in a show that is not a Kalliope Jones show.

“We played a solo show in the round, virtually, during COVID for Club Passim’s Campfire Festival, but this is the first time we will be doing it live, and with more musicians than just the three of us,” said Batteau about the show.

The theme of the night is Vampire Cruise and various parts of the night will be filmed for a video of the EP’s first track “Sniffin Gasoline.” The completed video will be shown at the Ashfield Film Festival. This could be your chance to get a cameo in the video, so come prepared!

Wheelzie will kick off the music at 8 p.m. with a set of their heart-felt, pop-flavored songs. They recently released the song “Spit Take,” the first single off their soon-to-be-released EP, “My Friends Don’t Like You.” This release will follow their debut EP “Career Fair,” released last year. You may have caught Wheelzie performing with Heather Maloney as they did a brief tour, including some local dates. The show on Saturday will be a solo performance.

High Tea, whose music has been described as “old blues and new pop,” will follow. The duo released the album “The Wick & the Flame” less than a year ago and is already releasing more new music. Their EP “Scuba Diving” will be released on Sept. 24, and the title track from the EP will be released as the first single on Aug. 31.

“The four tunes for this EP are very near and very dear in the way that makes it a wee bit scary to release them. But we hope y’all will hold them gently with us and feel seen by them,” High Tea wrote on their Facebook page. The two have performed frequently throughout the area including a successful appearance at this year’s Green River Festival.

The night will conclude with Batteau and their band playing material off the four-song “Confession Cruise,” which was officially released on Wednesday, Aug. 23. Batteau, who recently graduated from Vassar, has released two solo albums, “Extra Vacation Days” (2020), “Turn Me Honest” (2020), as well as multiple singles.

For this project, Batteau, the drummer for Kalliope Jones, recruited DevPlotkin on drums, AJ Del Negro on bass, and Tom Del Negro on guitar (yes, they are the Wonder Twins) to add their talents to this rich sonic stew. This group of local musicians will back them at this show.

From the punky pop hooks of ”Sniffin Gasoline” to the retro sound that runs through “Dentist/Decay” Batteau takes the listeners on a wild ride through different styles and moods. Considering they cite artists like Mannequin Pussy, Paramore, Fiona Apple, and Sun Ra as the inspiration for this work, I know we are in for something new and exciting.

As for the lyrics, Batteau describes these songs as being about “corpse-burying instructions, dentophobia, vampiric investigation, and anti-anthropocentric poetry.”

“I’m a pacifist post-classic vampire/ story where it all goes wrong/ lay me down but dare to pick me up/ shut the shades and still my blood,” they sing on the opening lines of “Liminal Diary,” a beautiful and moving song that Batteau recorded earlier this year to submit to the NPR tiny desk competition. Like the other tracks on “Confession Cruise,” that song benefits from interesting chord changes and tempo shifts while pushing the vocals into a new territory.

This show promises to be a fun night of music that will provide you with the chance to hear some new material and see these three musicians showing off different aspects of their ever-evolving musical personalities.

Coop Concerts tonight

It’s been a rough season for the Coop Concerts. The concerts, which take place every Thursday night from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Energy park in Greenfield, have endured so many cancelations due to rain this summer that I’m afraid I’ve lost count. Tonight (Aug. 24), singer Jennie McAvoy will perform a set of material featuring music from the British Isles, Ireland and America. Then Zydeco Connection will wrap it up with their zesty danceable tunes. Oh, and since rain is predicted you might want to check the Coop Concerts Facebook page to make sure the show is still going on.
