GREENFIELD — Due to capacity limitations at the Days Inn and the Greenfield Health Department office, the onsite service provider ServiceNet and the city must temporarily pause the acceptance of new donations for the immigrant and refugee families being given emergency shelter.

Mayor Roxann Wedegartner previously said she was notified by Lt. Gov. Kim Driscoll and the Executive Office of Housing and Livable Communities that, due to a “critical shortage of affordable housing in the state,” families with children would be provided emergency shelter in Greenfield at the Colrain Road hotel. A total of 41 families with 64 children arrived in the city in early June, many of whom are Haitian immigrants coming from the Boston area.

According to Greenfield Communications Director Matthew Conway, the city will notify residents when donations can be received again.
