GREENFIELD — A man was airlifted to Baystate Medical Center Friday afternoon as a result of a single-vehicle motor vehicle crash on Interstate 91.

Fire Chief Robert Strahan said Greenfield Fire Department responded to a call that came in just before noon on Friday for a vehicle on the median of I-91 Southbound. The vehicle was found with extensive damage on the Bernardston line, just north of exit 27.

“The Jaws of Life were used to extricate the male party,” said Strahan.

The man, who Strahan said was found alert and conscious, was then transported by American Medical Response to a landing zone set up by Bernardston Fire at Kringle Candle.

He was flown to Baystate Medical Center in Springfield.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation by the State Police.
