Amatul-Wadud gets endorsement

WILLIAMSBURG — Indivisible Williamsburg has endorsed Tahirah Amatul-Wadud for Massachusetts’ 1st Congressional District.

“Having met with Tahirah, we are extremely impressed with her intellect and accessibility and are so pleased to lend our enthusiastic support to her candidacy,” said Penny Schultz, chairwoman of Indivisible Williamsburg, in a release from the group.

Formed in 2017, Indivisible Williamsburg describes itself as a citizens’ organization that is focused on, “resisting the Trump administration’s attacks on individual freedoms, legal rights and social values.”

A Springfield attorney, Amatul-Wadud is challenging U.S. Rep. Richard Neal, D-Springfield, in the Democratic Party Primary.

The primary will take place on Sept. 4.

Scibak hosting O’Donnell event

SOUTH HADLEY — State Rep. John Scibak, D-South Hadley, who represents the 3rd Hampshire District, will host a fundraiser for Ryan O’Donnell, who is running as a write-in candidate for the Hampshire Franklin and Worcester District in the state Senate.

The fundraiser will take place Sunday at Johnny’s Taproom in South Hadley from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. The event will feature drinks and a cash bar. Johnny’s Taproom is located at 23 College St. in The Village Commons.

The president of the Northampton City Council, O’Donnell is one of six people running for the Democratic nomination for the Hampshire Franklin and Worcester District. Of these six, only educator and women’s rights advocate Chelsea Kline of Northampton is running on the ballot. The other four write-in candidates are Central Hampshire Veterans’ Services Director Steven Connor of Northampton, attorney David J. Murphy of Newton, former MoveOn.org director Jo Comerford of Northampton, and University of Massachusetts Amherst employee David Morin of Amherst.

The primary will take place on Sept. 4.
