My Turn: Election beliefs and aftermath

Checking out the news, it appears the Boogaloo Boys, Proud Boys and all the other “militia” groups that were involved in the Jan. 6 insurrection are being rounded up by our FBI. Among other things, these groups hate immigrants and refugees. Unfortunately, they are very much living in their own world. They need to get out more and see that immigrants aren’t murderers and rapists. We have plenty of white men already in this country that murder and rape. And these militia groups also follow QAnon, a discredited far-right conspiracy theory alleging that a cabal of Satan-worshiping pedophiles, mostly Democrats and Hollywood elites, are running a global child sex-trafficking ring.

Yes, this is something that some adults believe, including people currently in Congress.

Well, as was suggested in the documentary “Q: Into the Storm,” the all-powerful Q himself may have been found, and is likely to be Ron Watkins, a conspiracy theorist who was the site administrator for 8chan, which is owned by his father, Jim Watkins. 8chan is an online message board that has been linked to white supremacy, neo-Nazism, the alt-right, racism, anti-Semitism, hate crimes and multiple mass shootings.

Had the Jan. 6 insurrectionists succeeded in corralling the House and Senate, hanging Mike Pence and Nancy Pelosi, and destroying the ballot boxes, that would have been an unprecedented coup and the country would have fallen into complete disarray, with the lunatic fringe running the show. Please read Jon Bos’ recent my turn on how we may have fared had such an event transpired.

So, to those who believe the election was stolen, those rumors were allegedly started by Ron Watkins and his dad. As people who claim to be level-headed and smart, I ask you only to take a step back, check your beliefs and ask yourself if you’ve been bamboozled by some conspiracy theorist’s anonymous posts on an disreputable website to overthrow the very country you love. Splash your face, and confront that reality.
