Appointing a new GCC president

Tuesday, December 26, 2017

In September, this paper reported the upcoming retirement of Greenfield Community College President Robert Pura after nearly 18 years of service to the college and our community. Faced with the news of this inevitable reality, the GCC Board of Trustees took the initial step to notify the Commissioner of Higher Education that the search process to identify the next president of GCC would be getting underway. This is an important process, the outcome of which will have far reaching and lasting impacts on Franklin and Hampshire counties.

The search process has now begun. The college solicited for an executive search firm through a competitive bid process to assist with the process and has selected R.H. Perry & Associates for the job. The Board of Trustees is now taking steps to identify members of the search committee, who will be responsible for vetting applicants and recommending finalists to the Board of Trustees, who will select the next President, subject to final approval by the State Board of Higher Education. With the assistance of R.H. Perry, focus group meetings will begin thereafter, and the position announcement will be posted and recruiting efforts will be underway in early January. The plan is to have the next president identified no later than June 1, 2018 to allow for a summer transition of leadership.

To keep you informed about the steps being taken and the progress we are making, I encourage you to visit the GCC website at: www.gcc.mass.edu and follow the link to ‘presidential search’ where we will be posting information as it develops. This is an exciting time for our community college!
