’Peaceful souls all’

Published: 8/11/2019 7:00:52 AM

My wife Prue and I were leaving the Garden Theatre after seeing the charming movie “Yesterday” when we came upon people singing and holding candles on the town common. They were remembering those who died in the most recent mass murders. It was lovely to join with 40 or 50 young, middle-aged and older folks, peaceful souls all.

I already knew it was Hiroshima Day because I’d been writing it on some postcards I sent to friends. I’ve been observing Hiroshima and Nagasaki Days all my adult life and even made a pilgrimage to Hiroshima when I was 22 to do my own penance for the atomic bombs our country’s dropped on Japan.

Though I consider myself part of the Wally and Juanita Nelson/Randy and Betsy/Traprock Peace Center crowd, I don’t keep track of demonstrations, as we live 45 minutes away. My hat is off to those who organized the gathering and those who work to rid the world of these mass killings, including the horrible, useless weapons our military/industrial/congressional “leaders” keep building.

Blessings.
