Using errors as a learning tool

Being more than a little concerned about the errors and misleading statements in the Attorney General Offices’ Open Meeting Law determination, I both wrote to and spoke with the lawyer who created it.

Her supervisor refused to make the amendments necessary to achieve accuracy, on the grounds that the misleading statements would be used as a learning tool for municipalities across the state. Even though the observations in the determination very seriously gave the wrong impression due to factual errors, those errors will stand because the AG’s office puts a higher value on the learning tool than accuracy.
