Tax changes inevitable

Thursday, December 14, 2017

Greenfield, my hometown, has many virtues. A high property tax, however, is not one of them.

Compare Greenfield’s single rate average tax bill of $3,190 to that of Erving, with a split-tax and average bill of $1,203, or to Montague, split tax and average bill of $2,524.

Remember, the Town Council did favor the split-tax motion in 2005. This vote, however, was put off in order to save the town up to $200,000, due to delays in sending out new bills.

It appears that these current glitches in implementing the positive council vote reminds me of past promises. These attempts only delay the inevitable.
