Yes on Question 1

I am a Precinct 6 voter. I am writing to urge the voters of Greenfield to vote yes on ballot question 1.

While some people want it to be easy to change the decisions of our elected officials, I believe the people of our city need to realize that democracy is, in part, trust in our elected representatives to act in the best interests of our community. A small number of dissatisfied citizens should not be able to disrupt the process of government without gathering enough support from the larger voting population to warrant a referendum.

Elections cost our community money. Voters who are unhappy must be willing to reach out to a larger portion of the population in order to get a concern on the ballot. In no way does it diminish the democratic process to make people work a little harder for what they believe in. In fact it makes democracy stronger and more representative of the people’s wishes.

So, please, vote yes on 1.
