Carbon credits

After reading the Nov. 30 article in the Recorder about the company that buys and sells carbon credits that sponsored the billboards with the picture of a chain saw on them, it occurred to me that what they are doing is comparable to daylight savings time, or rocking in a rocking chair.

All they are doing is creating a flurry of activity that makes it look like they are doing something about global warming, when in reality it accomplishes nothing.

The company’s buying them are avoiding responsibility for reducing their carbon footprint by not actually reducing anything, and the people selling them are not actually producing more carbon sequestration, so in the end nothing positive has been accomplished.

This is just another tool for the rich and powerful to use to deflect attention from the fact that they are still a big part of the climate problems we face today, and has nothing to do with helping to resolve them.
