Animals as entertainment

I submit to you another viewpoint on using animals as entertainment at any fair or event. I will especially address this year’s Franklin County Fair to make a relevant point. Any one of us who knows animals: dogs, cats. chickens, pigs, cows, knows intrinsically that these are sentient beings with feelings and emotions.

I am speaking for the voiceless who cannot speak for themselves. The use of horses and oxen in pulling events and pigs in the racing event is, though a traditional way that agricultural fairs do events, no less an inhumane, frightening, terrorizing thing to do. There is no regard to any of these animals suffering broken bones, pulled muscles etc and we all know how that feels. We are more like than we are not alike.

May I introduce you to the concept of not using these animals but instead doing such things as a sack race, a skillet throwing contest. Perhaps a tri-athalon: Cornhole, archery horseshoes. If that were the case I myself would love to go and cheer on my friends or neighbors in such events because I know they are done safely and with regard to the people’s personal safety. Beyond that people choose to do these events animals don’t choose animals are forced.
