Acupuncture underutilized

Sunday, October 08, 2017

I am glad to see Karen Adams’ My Turn in the paper. I agree that acupuncture is an underutilized method of pain management. As Ms. Adams states, acupuncture does not create other symptoms that need to be managed — such as grogginess or the risk of addiction.

I am a medical librarian, so scientific evidence is important to me. FYI, the Natonal Institute of Health is studying acupuncture. For more information, please take a look at: https://nccih.nih.gov/health/acupuncture. As evidence builds, many folks are advocating for insurance coverage, and I commend those (such as the folks at Greenfield Community Acupuncture) who strive to make treatments affordable regardless. Especially for our veterans.
