Wait for a full approved plan

The April 4 front page article discusses the Mohawk Valley Woodlands Partnership. Readers should be made aware that this partnership does not have an approved plan, at this time.  Many people are concerned that the plan could  lead to developing more incentives for logging of forests and expanding the biomass industry in western Massachusetts.

Logging operations disturb the soils, plants and wildlife of the forests. Current studies are finding that leaving forests wild improves their health, sustainability and increases their carbon sequestration potential for curbing climate change.

While it currently looks appealing to join this partnership to get extra funds, it would be wise to wait until a full plan is agreed upon so that town residents will understand the implications of taking part in this partnership. Once the plan is developed, the citizens of the towns can be informed of the specifics before voting on whether they want their town to take part in it.
