Sanctuary cities don’t break laws

Friday, January 12, 2018

I would like to, once again, correct the misconception that sanctuary cities are breaking the law (as asserted by John Babits in his letter to the editor.) Sanctuary cities simply decline to do the job of the department of Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

They voluntarily choose to not retain undocumented people who have committed no crimes and pose no public danger.

I would also like to suggest that people stop using the inflammatory term “illegal immigrants.”

The Associated Press stopped using it a long time ago because it is an inaccurate term. Being undocumented is not a criminal offense.
