Exceptional Hawks & Reed event

Wednesday, December 06, 2017

Last Sunday afternoon, an exceptional community arts event took place at Hawks & Reed Performing Arts Center, the performance of “Your Voice, Poet” by Haitian playwright Jean Dany Joachim, winner of Silverthorne Theater’s Playwrights of Color competition, and the ensuing small group audience discussions about the place of the arts in the world today.

The play was performed by members of New York City’s Medicine Show Theatre Ensemble. The free admission attracted a standing-room-only crowd — over 125 participated. The excitement was palpable as each person had a chance to talk about their experiences and opinions. People left the theater energized to look for ways to continue the process of inclusion of all members of our community in the arts.

We at Silverthorne are very grateful for the support of Greenfield Savings Bank, the Valley Advocate, Passport Theatre, Hawks & Reed, and MassHumanities and for Richie Davis’s excellent article in the Recorder about the event. And special thanks for all the volunteers who helped out.

We are working with GCTV to air the video of the event for those who missed the performance. This event truly demonstrated the depth of our area’s commitment to and interest in the cultural health of our community!
