We are almost all descendants of immigrants

The “more humane” administration of President Biden is continuing to use the same cruel tactics of the president we voted out of office. Our nation is deporting thousands of innocent people who have risked their lives to escape from nations in chaos. Much of that chaos has historically been caused by U.S. interference in their governments in Central and South America as well as Haiti. Check the “Root Cause of Migration” chart on the web page for the Day Laborer Network. It points out 56 U.S. military interventions in Central and South America.

This expulsion policy, known as “Title 42,” was originally established by Trump as a way to close our border to asylum seekers, not allowing them to enter the U.S.to ask for asylum. It was supposedly to protect against COVID 19. But it went into effect over the objections of then-Director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Dr. Robert Redfield.

Public health experts have repeatedly criticized the program. Before resigning in protest as senior legal advisor to the State Department, Harold Koh sent a strongly-worded criticism of President Biden’s pandemic border policy and its current application to people seeking protection. He also outlined the legal objections. Daniel Foote, the former special envoy to Haiti also resigned in protest. He refused to be associated with Biden’s “inhumane” deportation policy.

There is a human crisis at our border. We cannot let it fester. Deportations back to their native country can be a death sentence,

There are common sense measures that can protect against COVID. We can safely test, quarantine and vaccinate people to ensure safe entry into the U.S.

Please call your member of Congress. Let them know we support them in ensuring the end of title 42 now.
