Need leaders who won’t back down

“I will stand my ground and I won’t back down.” — Tom Petty, 1950-2017

We vote for our leaders based on our political convictions; especially for those who will stand our ground and not back down ... to anyone. Well, we have what we voted for. Both the president and Sen. Schumer “backed off” a little recently, and their respective parties and supporters were NOT happy with them. Both were blamed for the shutdown and both were credited with the re-opening. The truth? Apparently, not important.

In the final analysis, we the voters, not our leaders, are ultimately responsible. After all, are we not the government of the people, by the people and for the people? Yet, candidates who are willing to “work both sides of the aisle” for the good of the people, are considered weak and are not worthy of our vote. Thousands of bridges across our country are crumbling, but our elected Congress is too busy launching more and pointless investigations into who said what and when.

So, until climate change rocks our political mindset into reason, the can will be bouncing down the asphalt highway until there is nothing left of it, and no ground left worth standing upon.
