No on Question 2

On Thursday night, Oct. 24 we went to the John Zon Community Center to listen to Sheriff Hodgson and to pick up materials to help people become citizens legally. We were met by hecklers, using hate speech and profanity. Then they came inside and continued during Sheriff Hodgson’s speech, interrupting him several times. He maintained his composer through his whole presentation.

The unruly protestors used profanity directed at the sheriff, local law enforcement and the audience. Finally, the police removed the majority of them, and they continued outside banging on the windows, ringing cowbells, banging on drums, loudly chanting, trying to disrupt and intimidate people inside who had come to listen and learn about how immigrants can come here legally and safely.

Sheriff Hodgson explained if we were a safe/sanctuary city, the city would not be safe for them to come, as well as our community, because we would be attracting the criminal element and bringing in drugs, gangs (such as MS-13), sex trafficking, and we would be a magnet for more crime, as they want to take over the Northeast. We can see what is happening down on the border states.

Upon leaving the event, the state troopers were there to keep us safe as we left. We were met by masked protestors using profanity and calling us pigs and other hateful speech.

One of us is a disabled elder. I believe this was an attack on elders, our community, and those who truly care for our community. This was a violation of our civil rights!
