Racist connotations

This letter was sent to the teacher, principal and superintendent of the Greenfield Middle School.

I am extremely disappointed. It was brought to my attention that you used the first day of Black History Month to play Hangman with your class and you used my grandson as an example. This is something that should not be played in schools or anywhere else.

Furthermore, you told the class that that is exactly why you chose my grandson to guess the words Black Lives Matter and you told my grandson, “That is exactly why I called on you.” You also told the students that you did not mark Black History Month on your calendar because there are only 28 days and that Black History Month was unnecessary. Then you made a statement to the class as to why there wasn’t a White History Month.

You teachers have a lot of power over students and to have a young Black or Brown child play that racist game of hangman is unconscionable. You knew exactly what you were doing when you played that game and chose my grandson as an example. The other students knew what you were doing as well and reported it to their parents because they were very upset.

I need to be able to trust that my grandson is getting an education that he deserves and not be harmed by racist connotations.
