A historical perspective

In your April 9 front page article “Mascot debate a ‘civil rights issue’” where The Recorder quotes Native American resident Rhonda Anderson about her views and experiences growing up amid negative, and thus hurtful, images of Native Americans; it might be educational for Anderson to gather members of her family (multi-generational if possible) and for a public forum to share her greater family experiences-and-views of their life here in Franklin County and beyond.

I’m curious to know, for instance, why Rhonda’s parents allowed her to attend local schools given the discrimination she points out today. Did her parents raise questions 25 years ago that went unheeded? In short, a historical perspective of her family’s experience would be educational and informative given today’s climate. I would also be interested in hearing from her daughter.
